| By Perry Stern After sweeping the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards in 2007, General Motors is in a position to make a repeat performance in 2008. Finalists for North American Car of the Year are the Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Malibu and Honda Accord. Buick Enclave, Mazda CX-9 and the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid make up the three Truck of the Year finalists. Last year, the Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Silverado earned the top car and truck awards, respectively. The final six vehicles in the running for this coveted award were announced on December 12, 2007, at the Detroit Economic Club. The awards for North American Car and Truck of the year are given by a jury of 46 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada. Publications represented by those journalists include MSN Autos, the Toronto Star, Car and Driver magazine, AutoWeek, the Chicago Tribune, MotorWeek, USA Today, Autoline Detroit, Edmunds.com, Road & Track magazine, the San Jose Mercury News, Consumer Guide, The Boston Globe, Automotive News and Fortune. In order to be considered for this award, a vehicle must be "all new" or "substantially changed" from the previous year's model. Winners will be announced on January 13 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Return here on the morning of January 13 to learn which vehicles earn the top honors for 2008. http://autoshow.autos.msn.com/autoshow/Detroit2008/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=5742132 | |
