At the 2007 Sema show, Dodge unveiled a concept car that may just bring Star Wars nerds and car guys together - the Dodge Avenger Tuner codenamed, Stormtrooper.
Good Looks
Inspired by the aggressive uniforms worn by the villainous (or heroic, depending on your viewpoint - go Sith!) stormtroopers in George Lucas’ iconic Star Wars films, the sporty Dodge Avenger Stormtrooper concept definitely looks the part. The exterior gets all kinds of special goodies including: 20 x 9 Alcoa Forged rims with custom graphics, tinted head and tail lights, specialized front and rear fascias, sill aerodynamic kit, integrated rear spoiler, cold air intake, and billet exhaust tips.
Performance
Under the hood, the Stormtrooper is equipped with a digitally-tuned 4.0 liter V-6 and an all wheel drive (AWD) system makes sure that power gets to the ground. The package also includes a six-speed automatic transmission with steering column mounted paddle-shifters, KW custom coil-over suspension, Xenon HIDs with Umnitza Predator halo lighting, and six-piston front and four-piston rear StopTech brakes.
Interior
The interior gets an equal amount of attention with it’s white and red, Alcantara suede-lined sections, and four sexy SRT8 bucket seats. The instrument cluster, doors, and pretty much everything that can be lined, are lined with this suede material. The center column is coated in pearl white to match the exterior. With the SRT8 seats, getting comfortable inside the cabin will definitely be easy to do. Keeping the interior white may prove more of a challenge however.
New Technology
According to Allpar.com, the Stormtrooper will have two Azentek mobile PCs installed with 1.8GHz Intel Core Duo processors, one in the front dash and one in the rear seat center console. Here’s where this concept really shines: A digital interface would grant the driver the ability to control tuning and monitor vitals, download engine calibrations, adjust fuel maps, order parts, and participate in web-based forums and chat rooms, all from the confines of the car - preferably not while driving.
So let’s review. A stout motor, AWD, stopping power, sexy good looks, an interior that is amazing, and technology that is light years ahead of anything else on the market really makes this Stormtrooper a winner. The only thing missing is an option for forced induction. I think a healthy turbo would go a long way to propel this ride to light-speed. This concept definitely impresses both of my inner-nerds; the Star Wars geek and the car geek. Everything about it screams pure awesomeness.
Unfortunately, as with all concepts, there is no guarantee this will ever make it to market. Even if it does, who knows what the final production model will look like. I just hope Dodge continues to make bold moves like they did with the Challenger and produces this Avenger on Star Wars steroids.
